Dear Lock-Tech Community,
Nearly once a week, I receive a text message or email from the “Michigan Department of Motor Vehicles” saying that I have an overdue payment for a toll road I have used recently. It usually contains a link which does not take you to the Depatment of Transportation website but will instead take you to a website designed to take your personal finances.
These communications are also infamous for threatening to seize your motor vehicle or to charge you even more money than the pending fine.
The amusing thing is… Michigan doesn’t even have major toll roads! Sure, there are some bridges which you need to pay to cross, but you won’t ever encounter the “Michigan Turnpike” within the state. Therefore, DON’T LISTEN TO THESE MESSAGE. Just delete them and don’t look back.
A few words of advice:
- Make sure to check the sender address/phone number of the communication and ensure that it is actually from the organiation which sent it. Sometimes the address will be really similar to the one the organization uses, so make sure to triple-check it.
- Check for grammatical errors or inaccuracies. These are prevalent in scam communications such as these.
- Always BE CAREFUL!
If you are ever unsure if a message is real or not, please feel free to reach out to Lock-Tech. We would be happy to help.
Best,
